Thierry Toupance

Thierry TOUPANCE obtained an Engineering degree from the Ecole Supérieure de Physique et Chimie Industrielle (ESPCI) de Paris, where he studied molecular inorganic chemistry. In 1995, he received his PhD from the University Pierre et Marie Curie (Paris), in Chemistry with distinction (highly commended - Honours Cum Laude). He has held several research positions in Paris, Bordeaux and Oxford UK and, since 2004, he holds a Professorship position at the University of Bordeaux and belongs to the "Institute of Molecular Science" (CNRS UMR 5255).

Prof. Toupance’s research group is focused on the design of new synthetic routes to prepare functional organic-inorganic hybrid materials for various applications such as photocatalysis, gas sensing and photovoltaic conversion. Prof. Toupance has developed research projects in the following areas: modification of oxide surface by organometallic compounds; design and synthesis of new dyes for dye-sensitized solar cells; low-temperature processing of semi-conducting oxide layers for photovoltaic and electrochromic applications; new mixed metal oxide heterostructures for photocatalysis (pollutant remediation or H2 production) and photovoltaic conversion; new materials for perovskite solar cells and integrated energy conversion-storage devices.

He is the co-author of 131 publications (h = 35), 3 chapters of books, and 6 patents and has given 24 invited lectures in international and national conferences along with 22 seminars in French and foreign universities, and more than 60 presentations in International Scientific Conferences. Since 2012, he is at the head of the “Doctoral School in Chemical Sciences” of the University of Bordeaux and he was the coordinator of a European Joint Doctorate ITN Programme in the field of functional materials between 2015 and 2019.
